Financial Assistance
The Stephenson County Veterans Assistance Commission provides temporary financial support to eligible Veterans and their families during times of hardship. Assistance may include help with rent, utilities, transportation, and other essential needs. Our goal is to ensure veterans receive the stability and support they need while working toward long-term self-sufficiency.

Veterans Van Service
The Stephenson County Veterans Assistance Commission provides free van transportation for eligible Veterans to medical appointments in Freeport, Rockford, and Madison, WI. All drivers are dedicated volunteers, ensuring Veterans have safe, reliable access to the care they need. Advance scheduling is required.

Veterans Service Officer and Veterans Rep
The Stephenson County Veterans Assistance Commission offers professional Veteran Service Officer support to help Veterans and their families navigate VA benefits and claims. Our VSOs provide guidance with disability claims, pensions, healthcare enrollment, appeals, and other earned benefits-ensuring veterans receive the assistance and advocacy they deserve.
The Stephenson County Veterans Assistance Commission provides support with Social Security matters through our Veterans Representative. We assist Veterans in understanding benefits, completing applications, gathering required documentation, and navigating the appeals process—helping ensure they receive the benefits they are entitled to.
